A 19-year-old dog was surrendered at a Dallas shelter. These best friends took her in

Annie, a black lab who is now more silver and white, is currently living out a bucket list and being showered with love.

Lauren Siler was about to board a plane home to Dallas from Anchorage, Alaska, when she first spotted the frosted face of a senior pup in desperate need.

“I saw her sweet little face sitting in her poor little kennel,” Lauren said.

The dog was featured by an Instagram account that shares information about dogs at Dallas Animal Services that need adopting or rescuing.

Anyone who surrenders a dog to the shelter can leave as much or as little information as they choose.

According to Lauren, the people who dropped off Annie said she had stopped walking and eating. They also disclosed that she was 19 years old.

Probly a divorce and the woman just left it because it was the husband’s dog. Seen it happened a couple times, so heartless

I’ve had my cat for 19 years, I absolutely love him and would do anything for him. We’re growing old together and would never give up on each other. He’s on the new injectable Solensia to treat his arthritis (equivalent to Adequan for dogs). He’s now got a new lease of life.

"We’re going to let her keep living life". Bravo! If life isn’t worth living, what is? Thanks for keeping her alive and warm with blankets of love.

Annie is a beautiful girl and I’m glad these two ladies have her now. Given up because she wouldn’t eat or walk? It looked to me as if she was doing both very well. Some people!

I like animals more than most humans. Thank goodness some really awesome women took her in and love her.

Why do humans call themselfs mom and dad to animals and then dump, mistreat, neglect, abuse them.
Do humans dump their kids when they are fed up with them too

I have two senior dogs: one is 16 the other is 15. The first one was sold at the market by an old woman. He was the runt of his litter and no one wanted him. The second one was a street dog who was abandoned by her owners at 10. Their faces are already frosted, their movements are slow but their zest for life is endless. They kept me sane especially during the lock downs. Shame on Annie’s former owners and all the best to you ladies for giving her the best and brightest moments of her life.

What a beautiful girl, I want to be angry with the morons that gave her up. It’s more important to be happy that she is happy now.

Not everyone is upper or middle class and able to afford high cost veterinary care and a designer canine lifestyle. There is nothing to suggest that this dog was neglected or abused, so ease up on the judgement on owners relinquishing their senior dog.

If you enjoy being shocked, look into the profiteering industries of ‘Aged Care’ and ‘Child Protection’.

I had a german sheperd growing up, but after he reached the age of ~11 years, he was too weak to do anything. All my siblings had moved out and my parents were too old to take care of him, so I did what any reasonable person would do. I took him to a pound, told them I found him on the side of the road, and that was that. They didn’t ask any questions. Not sure what happened to it. You can judge all you want, but I was not ready to make lifestyle changes to accomodate a dog that my parents decided to buy.

  33. Susan S on February 6, 2023 at 4:32 am

You are among the world’s best people, and I’m so glad that dog found you.
