After an Injury, These Primates Will Lend a Helping Hand
After an Injury, These Primates Will Lend a Helping Hand
After a traumatic brain or spinal cord injury, the simplest tasks can become daunting. At Helping Hands, capuchin monkeys are trained to help people with disabilities regain their independence and confidence. The capuchins spend between three to five years at “monkey college” where they learn simple tasks before joining up with people. This is no urban legend; these primates are making a real difference.

Helpful as long as they remove all their teeth and cut their balls off… But, as long as you can teach the monkey to diddle you just right, all is well 🙂

How is the monkey doing now?
I came here from Y: The Last Man.
this reminds me of the malcolm in the middle episode omg
This makes me so happy ❤️❤️
I wanted one of these monkeys for many years after my injury. But then I saw the movie "Monkey Shines." Let’s just say it doesn’t end well…

This makes me imagine a scenario in wich humans are abducted so we can help handicapped smarter aliens. I would say yes.
Bloody hell ELVIS reborn lol
I think this is slightly cruel beacause of long trading but mostly sensational

I love seeing this so much! It made me tear
Sad to use other animals as slaves for injured humans.
i believe that if people could help by translating the channel subtitles to their first language this channel would be much bigger in subscribers, views, etc
why hasn’t this gotten 100k likes
This is morally wrong and nobody and nothing will ever convince me otherwise. All this man said was emotional support, family, etc. He needs trained humans to help him.
These are awesome monkies.id love to have one lol.it would be a seriously spoiled monky though lol
How do you clean up after it?
This was awesome to see – great work!
Great video! 🙂
Pretty aggressive at flipping pages
Sure amazing what science can do!
I just hope day the monkey doesn’t get tired of doing things for him and get frustrated and turn on him
My neighbor has one!
Yeah, this isn’t going to be a widespread program because it doesn’t work well most of the time. Pulling all their teeth and neutering them isn’t going to solve behavioral problems because monkeys are not domesticated and have so many additional needs that just cannot be met by this type of interaction. Monkeys are not toilet trained, don’t like wearing diapers, will throw excrement if given the opportunity, carry and catch many serious diseases including herpes, hepatitis, and SIV, need a very specific diet, and become aggressive and difficult after attaining sexual maturity. They don’t make good pets, and I cannot imagine leaving one alone with a vulnerable person. A leash isn’t going to prevent attack, and even small monkeys with their teeth removed can cause injury. Who is changing the monkey’s diapers in these cases? Who picks up the monkey’s mess? Who gets the monkey into a cage at night? Who provides exercise? How does the monkey enjoy any freedom? Monkeys are not recognized as service animals, so they aren’t welcome in public places. You are much better off getting a dog for your service animal. There’s far less cruelty and danger involved.
God bless you both
