You are wonderful, I have a very frightened strong Jack russell and he needs to be sedated to do his nails so I will have to rig up some kind of elevated hold bag and do this as he is not a happy chappy.  I am so grateful for your generous help and hope you get lots of business for your efforts.

I tried the external twice and the internal and nothing will come out, the glands feel to be the size of a large pea, and my beagle keeps scooting. I feel i am pressing hard enpugh but afraid to allpy too much pressure and hurt her or even rupture the gland. No signs of infection or swelling in the area. Should I apply more pressure? Could they be blocked glands? Advice please.

If you go too far (third knuckle) can you hurt them? Like, you’d reach an organ, colon, etc?

This is the first time that I was able to milk the glands.

It took several tries , I just kept trying until things loosened up and of course I prayed first.

I’m going to give it another go in about a half hour she is very full.

I’m doing this alone and her rear end is very uncomfortable and she’s such a baby.

I’ve tried the other way several times with no or VERY LITTLE results and I wasn’t comfortable with pushing on her like that.

I felt it would bruise and make her sore.

She needs this done often she has a problem with that area.

I had to do it standing over her with her body locked between my legs with her head facing backwards.

I took her to the Vet once for this and she was still scooting afterwards, I guess they didn’t take it seriously.

Thanks for your help : )

My 16 year old lab has some issue with the glands. They seem to be leaking constantly. (I have to clean her butt 3 times a day) I’ve never been able to express her glands externally, but she never had a problem until now. Should I try the internal method or there is no point in expressing since they are already leaking a lot? Anything else I could do to solve this leaking?

It worked on our mini schnauzer! Poor thing can’t do it on his own and we’ve been taking him to the vet like once a month. It adds up in cost! And external expression does not work on him. Thank you so much for the tutorial!

Thank You much!! My dog just had this done at the vet about 3 months ago. maybe they did not get all the fluid out? So I will do it this time. She is always licking her butt and I do smell a foul odor at times when she sits by me.
