Awesome, Amazing Rat Tricks

Awesome, Amazing Rat Tricks

Watch Part 2:

A short video showcasing a handful of incredible rat tricks performed by my five talented rats:

Suki (Brown Agouti Berkshire Dumbo Rat)
Famous (Pink-Eyed Himalayan Top-Eared Rat)
Raven (Black Variegated Berkshire Dumbo Rat)
Shadow (Black Mismarked Irish Top-Eared Rat)
Paris (Russian Blue Berkshire Dumbo Rat)

All tricks are taught with positive reinforcement and clicker training.

Most of the tricks in this video are performed by Suki, Famous, Raven, and Shadow, since Paris had undergone surgery during the time this video was filmed. You can read about her surgery on my blog:

I have included footage of a few of her tricks that were filmed prior to her surgery, however she has many other impressive tricks up her sleeve that I haven’t yet filmed. Stay tuned for another upcoming video that will include more of Paris’ (and the other rats’) amazing tricks!

I hope you all enjoy. 🙂

Note to viewers: The cage shown briefly in this video is not their cage. They reside in a huge multi-level mansion, though I have them out much of the time.

Additional note: My rats are trained animal actors for media work and so it is crucial that they are able to perform outside and in foreign environments. As a professional wildlife educator and a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, I am well aware of the various wildlife species that inhabit the area. Fortunately, rat-feeding birds (esp. raptors/birds of prey) are very scarce due to my area being an extremely poor food source; of course I still exercise caution and remain vigilant nonetheless. Never once have I witnessed any animal species, birds of prey or other, watching my rats or even being present when they are out.
I would never, ever do anything that could potentially endanger my animals. They are priceless, dearly loved family members and their safety is of paramount importance.

I LOVE my ratties! 🙂

  1. Rats are great pets, rather like mini dogs! There are two kinds of people; People who love rats, and people who don’t know quite enough about them, those of you going on about how disgusting and dirty rats are… you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.

  2. Beyond awesome creatures God has made this smart and you have a God given heart 2 be kind and teach them wow and wow

  3. I’m trying real hard for my dad to get two rats. I did a lot of research on them and I am a good kid so I hope he will get me one. He thinks they are nasty but however much I tell him they aren’t he doesn’t believe me 🙁

  4. This was so utterly fun to watch, and I hope one day I could train Gir and Zim, my new 6 week old baby rats that I got yesterday, to do some of these wonderful tricks! Not only is it good for the critters, but it can also be good for their owners, as it requires you to spend time with your fur babes. I can tell how much you love them, which is great. I absolutely love this, keep up the great work.

  5. Whoa! I didn’t know that rats could jump that high or that far. These rats are ready for the Olympics.

  6. I had two rats when I was a kid and they lived to be 3 and 4, the only reason I don’t what to get any more is that you don’t get to be with them for long enough

  7. It’s such a shame that rats have earned a really bad rep over time. Videos like this can show the world how wonderful and intelligent these rodents really are!

  8. At a wedding "The Rings please!" *rats bring rings and put on wedding rings for the husband and wife. "Now I pronouce you" *rat holds up sign that says Husband and Wife* That Would Be Epic

  9. I love them….and you. You are gorgeous. Not for a moment I am thinking of animal abuse. One can tell when you see the animals. I have animals myself and I am an animal lover. Love your films. Thank you very much. All the best to you and your wonderful animal family.

  10. That’s frigging awesome taking the rat out and then calling them. Rats are great. I have 2 new boys I’m still trying to bond with. Great video.

  11. Guys, rats aren’t gross. They are the most smart out of all small rodents. They are also very social, and love playtime! They are very sweet, smart rodents! They are not monsters, please understand!

  12. WOW! So enjoyed watching your rats! Can not imagine anyone leaving bad comments here…what a great job you did in training these cute rats, thanks for sharing!

  13. OMG This is sooo great! I did not know that rats are so beautiful and intelligent animals, more intelligent than my dog!! I have always had dogs and horses, but this is another level…really great job!
