We will be looking into this, as we have a English bull terrier that gets aggressive and just absolutely gets wild if we try to cut his nails. It takes the vet two of his Office girls and my son to hold Bullet down and they can only get one mail cut. I just hope he doesn’t pull our beam off.
You made the best suggestions. Including sensory distraction, having the Dremel on prior to bringing the dog out, lots of treats, and making the whole ordeal a pleasant experience and not a task to be quickly completed. Thanks! I’m off to trim my Yorkies nails with more confidence!
Very helpful video. Currently we have to have our pittie sedated at the vets for nail trimming….I have been working with him and he finally will tolerate having me touch his nails with the clipper or the dremmel while on….it is a very slow process. I love how caring you are. What a sweet dog.
I used a Dremel on one of my nails, just to see what it is like. It is a terrible feeling. Very painful! No wonder they hate it!!! I would not use a Dremel. Instead, I use a pet nail grinder which has a smoother grinder and after trying it on one of my nails, I learned doesn’t hurt.
I was at my wits end with my two 55lb pits and the toe nails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then I ran into this video…OMG thank you so much. It makes much sense and looks do able. I will be getting my set up SOON. Again THANK YOU…
My dog won’t let me touch his feet at all. Even in play he nips at my hand and yelps. I rescued him so I think he was traumatized at some point. He won’t let me put a muzzle on or even a collar. I’m at my wits end. He has my arm all scratched up. I’ve tried calming pills but when I go to touch his feet he gets reenergized and goes crazy. He is a GSD about 16 or 17 months old.
I love this. My little dogs hate getting hair cut or trimmed and I think this is going to work amazingly. A friend who has shiatsu told me about this Stay tooned
Omg thank you. I tried it once and all hell broke loose to the point that I gave up and did not groom the rest of my dogs. I moved from a place that has dog services all over to a place where I have to drive for miles for service and through the pandemic they dont want to service new patients. Im learning on my own. This video is a godsend. Im clueless.
I could do all this except lift my 80lb German Shepherd rescue. He will not let anyone near him except me. He has bit and I’m in training with him. But until I build his confidence again because his previous owners abused him severely. I can’t take any chances. He lets only me bath him too. But this would be perfect if I could get him lifted by myself
My dog is very similar she doesn’t need shaving but she needs nail clipping. Groomers will not touch her because I need to muzzle her. My dog is 11 years old and very stiff I can hold her down but she is terrified
Thank you so very much for this post. I have a rescue GSD who has been completely traumatized with nail trims. He screams and expresses his anal glands when I even try to restrain him and touch his paws. It infuriates me that someone did this to him. I don’t have a helper so I am going to try some kind of hoist to assist me with the lift. I totally agree about the muzzle. Any dog, no matter how sweet, can nip or bite when they are pushed too far. Thanks again for this instruction!
Thank you so much for sharing this video! i really needed a way to be able to trim my dogs nails! i will Look to find a place to buy a sling. Thanks again!
My dog is a 100 pounds, will top out at about a 120… Can you give a little more specifics on your setup and maybe a sling to stay away from? I’m building a new home with a dog grooming station… I likely won’t have anyone strong enough to pick him up like that in a year or so, Not sure if I will need some type of bar and winch? I’m still in the idea stages… Right now it is grooming, ear hair and nails under sedation after one particularly Dramatic veterinarian attempt. He was OK before that I just couldn’t get in between the mats in his paws. He was a vulnerable 6 or 7 months when this happened, and All grooming has been laborious and a shitshow at home 🙁 p.s. Prior to that visit I had little problem clipping his nails, And no problem for the groomer ( Except he has tons and tons of hair.)
ive looked for hammocks, with many bad reviews for dogs weighing 55+ pds, do you have a referral link for this one on amazon? my 1 dog is 55pds, the other pup is 50pds and growing

I just ordered a dremel style tool for nails for our EBT that cant stand nail trimming – going to be ordering one of these slings and a muzzle next – thanks for this video!
Amazing product. I too have a pitbull whos scared to death of nail trims. I’m buying a sling today. Your dog is absolutely GORGEOUS! My ZEUS watched this with me. They look so much alike! Enjoy your time with him, he is so sweet. Awhhhhh
Really helpful! Thx. My drama pup flails, jumps, and screams when having nails dremeled. It’s a nightmare and I’ve been looking to purchase a sling. I’m desperate!
I love the sling I need one for my dog. One thing you need to be aware of, when using a dremel is they can make the dogs nail hot. So when you are working with your dog, touch the tip of the nail to make sure its not getting to hot. Sanding creates heat, and can hurt the dog.
Thank you so much for this video. We have tried everything. Even trying to desensitize our dogs to having their legs and paws handled without a trim. They are 1 1/2 years old. You would think they would be ok now…. Nope. The vet got to see it and prescribe a sedative that they generally give before surgery…… That slowed the body but not the mind and the mind pushed the body to work despite the sedative. Poor thing couldn’t sleep for 6 hours. Constantly looking around with any sound
I used to take mine to the vets till she came out one day and said she couldn’t cut any of his nails as his tongue went blue then I found out they were choking her in submission and I can’t do that to her now she hates her nails cut she is a English bulldog 27 kg

What a pain in the ass. I’ll stick with cats
very good video

Can you tell me where you got your nylon slip leads? And muzzle?
My dog would lose it
where is the link to the harness/??????
I just set up a sling hoist up for my pup and your tips for how to handle the procedure was very helpful. Thank you
*A practical guide that doesn’t contain too much padding **dogy.training** which is what i wanted. Well written and well explained.*
I just ordered 2 of these off amazon because I’m tired of fighting with my dogs to trim their nails. Good video! Thanks!! You made it look so easy.

I could not find the video of your conditioning your dog to the hammock. If you could include a link that would be great

Doesn’t that dremel get hot? Some do not pay attention and it burns
Where did You get the sling and such from. I have a girl that just barks and fights, as soon as she sees the clippers or dremel
Can you recommend a dremel? And the correct attachment to use? Thank you!
I train mine from puppies trim their nails treat per foot it doesn’t take long for them to stand and work on toes

can you use nail trimmers instead of a Dremel?
Lucky Tail Nail Grinder is so quiet.
I really like that bed you have him on, it looks so comfy for the furbabies! Where does one find one like that?
Love the way you highlight whole dog training and relationship in the process. I got some great ideas, very well done demonstration, thanks!

You stay too long on each nail…way too hot for the dog.
Thanks you so much! I have a french bulldog who WILL bite I’ve tried everything! I’ve never had a dog act like this 🙂

Thank you for this.
I would like to get a sling
How about just tie a 100ft rope around their whole body? Lol
Thank you
If you act with confidence the dog will have confidence.
