Passengers abuse rules to bring animals on planes

Passengers abuse rules to bring animals on planes

If you think you are seeing more four-legged flyers, that’s because it’s easier than ever for them to ride in the cabin. CBS News travel editor Peter Greenberg reports on how some passengers are taking advantage of a law meant to protect the disabled. He put the law to the test by seeing if a pig could fly as emotional support pets.

Only real service dogs should be allowed on flights.

  7. sheryl BUTLER on November 9, 2022 at 11:06 am

Better to fly with a pet on board than a screaming kid for 4 or 5 hours. JS

  8. find purpose on November 9, 2022 at 11:06 am

No it’s not about money! It’s about that pets suffer or die in cargo!

  9. BunnyX YT on November 9, 2022 at 11:07 am

Also service animals. I saw a chilla “zorro” on American Airlines.

Something I’m curious, is it an American thing that Americans require support animals? When I go to Mexico, I haven’t seen a single Mexican citizen within the country using a support animal. I hear there are some but it dwarfs compared to Americans. Are Americans that weak minded or that messed up compared to the rest of the world? I have yet to see Tribes throughout the countries in Africa to use an support animal for example and those people have even more limited resources to get by the day.

All animals on flights need to be in cargo and caged.
No one wants to smell some one’s smelly pet of any kind, but the owner who is numb to the smells anyway!!!

i have more respect, ethics and morals than to try to take my dog on a plane because i’m selfish

  14. FurryEskimo on November 9, 2022 at 11:12 am

Well that’s not,, good.. This belittles those who genuinely need support animals, Trained support animals..

  15. Sebastian 2213 on November 9, 2022 at 11:13 am

I don’t really see what’s wrong with this, they should just allow all animals who are able to behave to travel on planes without charging people for it.

  16. Yank ee on November 9, 2022 at 11:14 am

I wonder where they’ll put my Clydesdale?

  17. Julie Watson on November 9, 2022 at 11:15 am

Any animal showing aggressive behavior should not be allowed on a plane. It should not be allowed to roam loose on a plane where passengers are inconvenienced or end up stepping in feces. They belong in Carriers, not allowed to run loose. What do you do about allergies of passengers. No one expects to get cats shoved up their noses. Or a growing dog. They should have to have certificates for these animals to fly. OR STAY HOME, or drive a car.

You may have to widen the seats for my emotional support elephant.

  19. Larry Powers on November 9, 2022 at 11:17 am

Great! I can bring my emotional support Tasmanian devil!

  20. Ian Carisi on November 9, 2022 at 11:18 am

The law has since been changed. Emotional support animals are not allowed by law. Only service animals.

  21. Gary McAfee on November 9, 2022 at 11:18 am

I would rather ride next to a dog than a human any day of the week!!!

  22. Ryan on November 9, 2022 at 11:18 am

You can also do this to have pets in an apartment where they wouldn’t otherwise be allowed

  23. Brian Bienvenu on November 9, 2022 at 11:22 am

What abou people that are allergic to dogs and cats?

  24. Reynaldo Flores on November 9, 2022 at 11:22 am

LOL! Just put a service vest on your dog and instantly it gets to fly for free!
Pretty soon there would be a horde of dogs all wearing service vests flying on planes.

  25. BunnyX YT on November 9, 2022 at 11:23 am

Also service animals. I saw a chilla “zorro” on American Airlines.

Wth they charge $199/year for a letter when airline only charged me $99 lmao

  28. T.D. Herrington on November 9, 2022 at 11:27 am

I hate to see people abuse this. Someone who actually needs a support animal will eventually have to jump through hoops to travel with their animal.

  29. Anonymity on November 9, 2022 at 11:27 am

No joke. People will poison your pets if you bring them on the plane. I wouldn’t blame them either.

  30. Noelia Zaballa on November 9, 2022 at 11:28 am

Perhaps if flying them in cargo in 2021 wasn’t such an abusive, torturing, allowed experience, people wouldn’t abuse the rules. CLEARLY we’re all asking to be allowed to fly with our pets in cabin or at least, have a special airline to fly them.

I have a mule.im depress for what is happening to our country.

  32. Joseph Latourette on November 9, 2022 at 11:29 am

A couple years ago I saw a news story with someone who had an emotional support emu

  33. Trucker 2022 on November 9, 2022 at 11:29 am

Doesn’t surprise me. A lot of animals lovers have gotten away with bringing their animals any where. I am just waiting to see what happens when these animals bite someone or someone slips from stepping on animal poop.

  34. Dana Glass on November 9, 2022 at 11:30 am

If you need a pet to fly with you….don’t fly.

  35. Sun Ketten on November 9, 2022 at 11:31 am

Every time I board a plane I worry that there is going to be a dog on it because I am *SUPER* allergic to dogs. My allergies can get so bad that I can’t breathe. The 20+ times I’ve been on a plane l’ve been lucky. I hope it stays that way.

  36. Caroline Ullrich on November 9, 2022 at 11:36 am

People taking advantage ruining it for legitimate service dogs or much needed support animals

  37. Keith Faulk on November 9, 2022 at 11:37 am

I love animals but animals don’t belong on a airplane..!!!! An emotional need ?? Really ?? Please !!!!

  38. HONDA TRAVELERS on November 9, 2022 at 11:37 am

  39. Henry Lee on November 9, 2022 at 11:38 am

Give it time and individuals will be able to marry their pets.
A soft government leads to big mischief!!!

    No way

  42. Bridget Mirizio on November 9, 2022 at 11:41 am

United airlines no longer allows for emotional support animals because of this.

  43. Michael Swisher on November 9, 2022 at 11:45 am

That blind guy is 100% right. 100%. Service animals must perform an actual service not this emotional support crap. If you can’t fly without a dog because of feelings, then you shouldn’t be flying.

  44. Jenni L on November 9, 2022 at 11:48 am

Rediculous. If you fear flying, drive. Service dogs are for the blind or deaf, has received intensive and intensive training. I get emotional support from having my grandchild with me. She behaves like an animal sometimes and poops a lot. Can I take her on a flight for free?

  45. The King Of Waffles on November 9, 2022 at 11:54 am

Well, Just imagine when *nuclear intercontinental commercial submarine travel* gets started! It’ll be only a matter of time when some *psychological unstable idiot* bring a great white shark onboard a trip….

  46. Adventure Seeker on November 9, 2022 at 11:54 am
