Pet Rat Diet – Requested

Pet Rat Diet – Requested

Rats are cheap pets to have because their diet is not expensive. I find that it is actually cheaper to feed them fresh food instead of commercial packaged rat food. But that is not why I feed my rats this way. Real food is simply more healthy and natural than anything processed and in a bag.

Most commercial rat food is full of Alfalfa and Dried Corn, both of which are harmful to rats. If you want to feed your rats packaged rat food make sure that this ingredient is not in it. If fresh food is not an option for you, Oxbow Adult Rat food is a good choice.

If you want to learn why packaged food is unhealthy you can watch my video about why raw diet is great for dogs. This video is about feeding dogs a raw diet, but you will learn a lot about the dangers of processed food. https://youtu.be/tt5G4XcRHDc

Okay I will say, all of the info seem true but alot is very false I’ve had rats for 12 years and I have learned alot about rats and there diet. It makes me sick to come across your page and looking at that face while you talk about "pets" you should really find another day job. Your info is very false than true.

I currently have 4 boys and I know what to feed them but I’m always worried about how MUCH I should feed them. The bowls I typically feed them in (currently dry food) I have one of those small plastic ones (meant for hamsters) and a bowl roughly the same size as your in the picture, it’s ceramic and usually for cats but honestly works. I know what they can and can’t have, but I don’t want to underfeed them or overfeed them. Should I use both bowls or just the ceramic one? (the only way i can describe the ceramic one is that it holds maybe 1/2-1/4 of the ceramic one?)

edit: I want to say that I’m either going to switch them to fruits and veggies or to high-quality oxbow. I’m undecided.

Can I feed my rat dog nuts As a treat?

  26. kimberlyhuels on September 21, 2019 at 1:27 am

My boys go crazy over quinoa. They also love water melon, cucumbers, Romaine lettuce, cooked cream of wheat with a tiny bit of raw honey, yogurt, cooked mashed sweet potato with almond milk to keep it from getting too sticky, they also love dog treats that I either make, or healthy grain free dog treats that have veggies and fruit instead of meat, and are not processed. Loved your video and all the foods you mentioned, my boys get and love. Eggs…I scramble them as I am scared to death of choking on the yolks.

  29. Fampaws on September 21, 2019 at 1:29 am

I would like to see a video about how you put the rats food together with the fresh foods you also gave. For ex. "5% seeds" which seeds you recommend and why if you understand and why you choose those veggies and how much of the diet they’re. Do you plan over a week how the diet is gonna look like? I know people do that when feeding raw/fresh to dogs for variety and to include everything they need.

  30. Eva Borek on September 21, 2019 at 1:32 am

How much seed mix would you feed to two female rats I can’t find how much to feed anywhere. And I am getting them in like from a week to even a year but I have to be all educated.@Happy Tails
    Thanks!
