Quinton Aaron Visits Big Cat Rescue!

Actor Quinton Aaron, most famously known for his lead role in the movie The Blind Side along with Sandra Bullock, recently visited the Big Cat Rescue. Having played the part of abandoned and homeless Michael Oher who then found a wonderful home with the Touhy family, Mr. Aaron said he could readily identify with the cats who had been similarly abandoned and then found a wonderful home at Big Cat Rescue. While he was here, Mr. Aaron made this video along with a radio public service announcement for us It was an honor having Mr. Aaron visit us and we very much appreciate his passion for the cats and his support!

*shere khan!! I really love that name, the original jungle book (not the Disney version) is my favorite play!

I dont get people who says that some owners should be allowed. No. I mean… those owners are the reason why BCR exist on the first place. Common people should not have big cat as PETS, thats just fucking stupid. Not only is irresponsable, but also promotes that idea that ANY animal can be domesticated.

There’s a difference between the regular everyman actually owning an animal and a sanctuary like this that has the animals living there. They don’t own their life like what other people do.

  7. Big Cat Rescue on February 22, 2023 at 4:33 am

The cats that live together get along well and only "play fight" with each other sometimes, we are part of the ITC – International Tiger Coalition and WWF is also a member.

  8. joonbug on February 22, 2023 at 4:34 am

I have no idea why people have big cats in there back yards. I mean really they think that the tigers won’t hurt them. They are wild animals thay need to be free. But bcr is the best thing for them now. thank bcr for helping these animals. 🙂

  9. Big Cat Rescue on February 22, 2023 at 4:36 am

We don’t believe that wild animals should be bred to spend their lives in cages, they belong in the wild,

  10. Freya the Cat on February 22, 2023 at 4:36 am

Should wild big cats live in government/city owned zoos? I was just kinda curious, considering your message, since obviously they have big enough pens, and get fed.

He looks like the guy from blindside! Is he?

  12. jennamarie1223 on February 22, 2023 at 4:37 am

(continuted) The people at BCR, other rescues, and AZA accredited zoos have the educational and professional backgrounds necessary to care for these animals properly, hence why big cats at a sanctuary vs. with a private citizen aren’t even able to be compared.

  13. Big Cat Rescue on February 22, 2023 at 4:40 am

Black leopards/jaguars do exist in the wild, I wouldn’t say that the black coloring is better than the typical golden spotted coats but they can survive in the wild.

  14. Ettina Kitten on February 22, 2023 at 4:40 am

Domestication takes many generations. It’s a process of selective breeding by which animals are created who are specifically adapted to live in captivity.

Look into the Russian domesticated fox experiment. It took 50 generations of selective breeding to obtain a silver fox subspecies that are suitably adapted to pet life.

Just because your friend’s bobcat was born to house pets and has never lived in the wild does make him a domesticated animal.

  15. missreds88 on February 22, 2023 at 4:41 am

I love big cats, they are my favourite animals in the world. And that’s why I would NEVER try to take one as pet. They are so beautiful and they deserve freedom in the wild.
Thanks, Big Cat Rescue, for your amazing job. Please don’t stop.

    A supporter from Italy 🙂

  18. Big Cat Rescue on February 22, 2023 at 4:43 am

Yes, we can only do this with bobcats that have been injured/orphaned in the wild, we rehab them and then release them back into the wild. We cannot release any cats that were already kept in captivity previously to living at the sanctuary (which is 99% of our residents)

  19. samiuseliina on February 22, 2023 at 4:45 am

some people learn from their errors and seek to stop others from falling into the same trap and some people never learn.

I loved you in The Blind Side!! Just so you know.

  21. An telwi on February 22, 2023 at 4:47 am

Horrible, how badly people can treat wild animals. BCR is doing a great job at trying to stop that abuse.

  22. Brandi *click* Bear! on February 22, 2023 at 4:48 am

Just because he is born in the house that doesn’t make him domesticated. He will always be a wild animal, he maintains all the wild instincts of he cousins that live in the wild. A common house cat gotten from the shelter is domesticated, a bobcat will never be.

BCR, a great place i have visited ,after a long time of waiting, with my daughter, husband and grandchildren and the other grandma on the 7e of August. A wonderful place, even on that day with rain but we saw the animals you always show in your video’s and your volunteers who explained about this rescue center. Also we bought some things in the shop and my oldest grandson put a donation in the big bottle. I wish you all a happy Animalsday on the 4e of october. ♥♥Jeannette♥♥ from Holland

Ok. Thank you so much. This is all I’ve wanted to for as long as I can remember. Rehabilitation for big and small cats alike.

  26. jennamarie1223 on February 22, 2023 at 4:54 am

The difference between the cats we have as pets nowadays and these wild cats is that house cats have evolved over millions of years to adapt to live and coexist with humans. Big cats have not- they are wild and should stay there. Big Cat Rescue is just that- a rescue, and they give these animals a habitat as close to their natural habitat as possible, but because these cats were born in captivity (although they are still wild,) they can’t be released back into the wild.

Только человек с большим сердцем может понимать и чувствовать очарование крупных и опасных хищников,наводящих животный ужас на большинство думающих,что именно люди являются венцом животного мира.

What’s BigCatRescue’s opinion on how the lions lived that Kevin Richardson, or "The Lion Man," had his cats in cages? I mean, from what I’ve seen, he’s very good at how he had it, but I’m just curious honestly. 🙂

  30. Nancy Perriera on February 22, 2023 at 4:59 am

The look in that poor lion’s eyes will haunt me forever :'( Bless you BCR for giving these creatures some peace.

It is so heartwarming to see your cats well fed, taken care of, relaxed, and happy. I cry with joy almost every time I watch your videos 🙂

  33. jennythenguyener on February 22, 2023 at 5:02 am

no one should ever have big cats in their backyard aveyowyns have you seen people who OWN big cats people don’t even have enough money to feed them Professionals know what there doing and since when did they want to keep all of the animals if they let them go into the wild the big cats won’t survive because they can’t hunt they’re used to getting fed by people

  34. OneKinKStar! on February 22, 2023 at 5:04 am

BCR regularly takes in native bobcats to provide medical care until it can be released back to the wild. Every effort is made to keep those lesser cats safe and to keep them from human contact for however long they are rehabbed. Seeing films of those cats running free after suffering an injury from being hit by a car is wonderful and certainly very gratifying for BCR, but sometimes it can’t be done. Big cats, like tigers aren’t wild and lack skills to survive, so are not set free.

  37. OneKinKStar! on February 22, 2023 at 5:05 am

There are plenty of domesticated animals who need a home; killed each day for lack of space at the shelter or funding. Anyone with a desire to own a wild, exotic animal wants what he/she wants, regardless of the consequences. Selfish egotists! Few people are capable of giving what is required to keep these animals happy and healthy for their lifetime, including keeping them safe from harm and having the finances necessary for medical needs and nutritious foods. Records show it’s very few.

has any cat attacked one of the staff members?

  39. Jilly Bean on February 22, 2023 at 5:07 am

I really don’t get why people would keep these big cats as pets they call them wild animals for a reason.

  40. matt nick on February 22, 2023 at 5:09 am

Because there are a lot of stupid people out in the world.

  41. jennamarie1223 on February 22, 2023 at 5:12 am

They’re an accredited non-profit, not private owners.

  42. Big Cat Rescue on February 22, 2023 at 5:13 am

No, we’ve never had any incidents at the sanctuary, we don’t have any contact with the cats and keepers are fully trained on site.

  43. SuperMan on February 22, 2023 at 5:13 am

People should not have the right to own big cats or other exotic pets. Not only because exotic animals may not be predictable, but simply because they are living beings, like us, who deserve proper care and a private space of their own.
If we don’t stop people from owning exotic pets, those poor creatures will also suffer the same fate that many of our astray domestic pets suffer today; a miserable life and then death. People, don’t let it happen!

  47. Big Cat Rescue on February 22, 2023 at 5:18 am

    Yep!!

  48. Big Cat Rescue on February 22, 2023 at 5:20 am

The answer is yes legally you can own wild cats like bobcats as "pets" in many states unfortunately, would we suggest this, absolutely not! We are against the private ownership of these wild animals, they never make good "pets", they deserve so much better and will always be dangerous and unpredictable, please rescue a domestic cat instead!

  49. Ettina Kitten on February 22, 2023 at 5:20 am

"How do professionals become professionals if it’s not through experience?"

They don’t gain this experience by privately owning big cats. They gain it by receiving several years of training, and then getting hired to work at a place like Big Cat Rescue.
