Petland store in Frisco, Texas is facing citations after undercover investigation by the Humane Society of the United States finds sick puppies and a lack of veterinary care.

Between July and August 2019, a hidden-camera investigation conducted by the Humane Society of the United States in the Frisco, Texas Petland store found heartless animal mistreatment and disease. City animal control charges are reportedly pending against the Frisco Petland store after HSUS investigators presented documentation of sick puppies to animal control and described puppies in the pet store’s back room who were too sick to eat or were suffering from severe vomiting and diarrhea.

As someone whose worked there I can confirm a lot of this…. Unfortunately. And I’m apparently not allowed to talk about it… but those animals deserve better. We literally had a pomsky with a defect and I was told it’s being sent back and probably euthanized. Countless chameleons have died because of lack of care and maintenance on a daily basis. I attempted to use my own products from home to help out (since they were using a UVB bulb 24/7 for “heat” when it emits very little heat. Which they shouldn’t have the uvb that long only 12 hrs) only to be passive aggressively accused of messing with things without permission. And store using things. We didn’t have a GM and the two besties were in charge and def chose favorites. Let’s see there’s more….. oh having a puppy die in my arms the min I arrived at a emergency vet clinic because the person in charge of the puppies’ health said he was fine when the kennel manager told them they were not fine. An old GM refused to let anyone take a sick dog to the vet because of the holidays and it passed during the night. Constantly forget about the sick animals in the back, basically once their sick theyre just left to die. Constantly forget about the reptiles on the top shelf so they’d just shrivel up and die from lack of moisture. I was yelled at because I was trying to get this puppy to eat but kennel wasn’t open exactly on the time we opened which mattered more than the puppy eating. Then to top it off being scolded for not bugging someone to finance and take a puppy home when they clearly aren’t ready for a commitment like that — we are trying to find the best homes for puppies right? But that doesn’t technically matter because as long as they’re going home it’s fine. Just no! You can tell the types of people who impulsively get a puppy and the countless husbands or wives or people in general that bring them back because someone got mad is just nuts. And I just my heart hurts for all the puppies that are rejected for the stupidest reasons…. A BASSET HOUND HAD A HERNIA SURGERY AND THE STITCHES WERE SO BAD YOU COULD STILL SEE INSIDE HER STOMACH…. BUT WE WERENT ALLOWED TO WRAP IT BECAUSE IT WOULD LOOK BAD TO THE PUBLIC…..

Just an AWFUL place to work at….. I couldn’t do it anymore. I’m way too empathetic to watch animals suffer like that….

Talking from a employee we do not freeze the are animals in Iowa, we give them proper care, please don’t shut down the facilities, maybe some of them do need to be put down but think about what will happen to all of the puppies at the place if you do shut the franchise down, no hate though!

  3. Ants_in_my_eyes_ Johnson on January 5, 2023 at 1:42 am

This infuriates me to no end. Then they try and sell these sick puppies to people for $10,000 and target low income families and people to try for a loan that ends up making them pay near to $20,000 after interest and leaves the potential owners to pay what ever vet bills it will take to get the puppies better if that is even a possibility! Tell me what I need to do. I will go undercover if they need it.

    Petland should go to H3LL!

  5. J C on January 5, 2023 at 1:44 am

In 2022 I’m shocked anyone would get a an animal from a pet store. Where’s the common sense?

  6. Love is time on January 5, 2023 at 1:45 am

They have sick puppies a lot

  7. Azra Selimanovic on January 5, 2023 at 1:47 am

WTF… this is sickening. NEEDS TO STOP. I want all the puppies to have a safe and loving home but I don’t understand puppy mills. And the freezing part, first time hearing that.. that’s fucking disturbing and so sad. You sick piece of shits. I would sue all of you. Why are on earth would anyone do anything so cruel and scary. This video makes me so so sad. Best is with a breeder who knows what they are doing. Poor babies, they don’t deserve this..

  8. Patty Powell on January 5, 2023 at 1:48 am

How the heck is petland allowed to stay in business? They need to be shut down permanently.

  9. Amy C on January 5, 2023 at 1:48 am

This literally made me cry! How can people be sO cruel! These poor animals depend on us, humans to care for them and they jus disregard needing medical attention. I feel sO sorry for all those animals. I recently found a dog at Petland I liked. After doing my research I will not purchase him however, I do feel extremely sad for the puppy. He couldn’t help his situation. What’s going to happen to him *cries*? People who run puppy mills and Petland need to be stopped! There is a special place waiting for them in HELL too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. XaytheaVeilBuckeye on January 5, 2023 at 1:48 am

Is there a reason we haven’t shut down Petland across the USA/wherever the hell else they are and charged the employees with animal cruelty or something? They should all be thrown in jail and we need to start executing these people who engage in puppy mills.

  12. isa gyui on January 5, 2023 at 1:57 am

i used to work at petland and let me tell you i couldn’t even last there a long time the things i saw were horrible and no one cares abt the dog. they only care abt the money they make

  13. PaigeLouiseLONDON on January 5, 2023 at 2:00 am

Maybe I’m being naïve. But I’m shocked that these places are not a legal how is that not happened already? Today I was walking to the grocery store and there was a Petland across the street. I was very sad to see more than 50 dogs cramed in small plastic cages most cages had three or four dogs in laying on top of each other.

  14. Kadi Sumrall on January 5, 2023 at 2:04 am

Funny how the Houston humane will go undercover and take videos but wouldn’t even see my dog on Saturday after I drove 2hrs to see them. She was dead by Monday night

  18. it’s Abe, babe on January 5, 2023 at 2:09 am

Guys. Y’all gotta stop making hate videos because you have nothing better to do. Yes we freeze the animals if they pass away so that their body doesn’t decompose. Then we take it to the vet when we have time. They also aren’t dying because of us their dying because they got a disease from whoever the breeder was. That’s all.

  19. Muramaomiji on January 5, 2023 at 2:09 am

    No. 1
Them shut them the heck down! We can’t just let those animals suffer!

  24. Jay Bron on January 5, 2023 at 2:13 am

The government should shut all petland a down . But they don’t care as long as they get their tax money from all the sick dogs sold .

  25. BIOSPHERE on January 5, 2023 at 2:14 am

I live in chlllicothe, ohio. PETLAND’S HEADQUARTERS. where i live, so many people are still being fooled by this company. everyone acts like they don’t have any problem that these pets are pretty much being exposed in those small ass compartments. people seem blind to the fact that there’s 2 other places where you can get pets that are much better, and kids believe that this is how all people get pets

  26. AlphaGaming on January 5, 2023 at 2:15 am

I took a visit… its even worse then in the video

I am so ashamed that our pet-loving country allows this. Greedy CEO’s only using animals for money. This is appalling and heartbreaking. I am even more shocked at how FEW people are aware of what a puppy mill even is! How do people not know yet?! They have phones. I guess marketing is that good. I walked into a Petland store last week (unknowingly), smelled and heard the puppies immediately as I was walking in, looked around to see if there was a shelter adoption event (*fingers crossed*), saw the cages, and almost left. Before I left I said to the store associates who had asked me if they could help me find something, "I’m sorry, I have to leave. I cannot support this." They probably thought I was the biggest "Karen" ever, but I don’t care. If they work there and KNOW how those babies are treated, they must hate animals. More people need to walk into their stores and show their disdain. I hope corporate sees the store videotape and thinks twice. They probably won’t but I can hope. Better yet, write a letter. They need to be shut down.

  38. Eye sore on January 5, 2023 at 2:33 am

I got my dog from pet land and no wonder it gets dirirea everytime it walks back in there

  39. Dana Oliver on January 5, 2023 at 2:35 am

So I manager a petland kennel. Idk who runs that one but tahts ot how my owner kperate shos location and we have a vet clinic. Right next door we are partnered with. My puos get seen by a vet 2 times a week and I’ve only had one pup pass under my supervision after he beat parvo. Not all petlands run the same. The man I work for goes through the best breeding facilitys in the US. No puppy mills (which unfortunately exist) people will always want "designer breeds" and dog you cnat find in shelters. Just adopt responsibly
