Top 10 WORST towns in New York State. No need for sunscreen most the year.

Top 10 WORST towns in New York State.

Let’s face it, New York gets a bad rep for New York City. Well, there are many small towns in New York State that help out with that bad rep. This video list 10 of the bad ones. Like I said in the title no need for sunscreen most of the year.

Thanks for stopping by The world according to Briggs, I make lists. Not just lists of random stuff, I make them about states, cities, towns, and other places in the United States. I post 3 times a week and sometimes live stream. Enjoy.

Are you insane? What about us baby? – Schenectady, N.Y.

  2. Scott Rohlin on January 3, 2023 at 1:24 am

You are such a hack! Please show us how Morrisville, NY, located on Route 20 in the middle of the state, is 33 miles south of the Canadian border and is right next to the Vermont border. It would appear that you have never been to New York and you are just here for views and to misinform.

  3. deadmensrequiem on January 3, 2023 at 1:30 am

So, why are you putting pictures of Johnson City in the video?

  4. Jeanne 2b2b on January 3, 2023 at 1:31 am

Missing Wyandanch and New Cassel, both on long island. You will see safety bars on window’s and doors of homes and businesses.

What about Grandma Browns baked beans in Mexico 🙂 If you love snow, Oswego county is for you 🙂

When it comes to NY State, you have no idea of what you are talking about. If you think a town is all bad just because it’s cold then you are probably a wuss.

  7. The Rant on January 3, 2023 at 1:34 am

I can’t believe my town isn’t on here. I’m actually shocked and excited all at once. Maybe it’s not so bad after all.

  8. Christopher Byrne on January 3, 2023 at 1:35 am

I am going to take you to task here for including Endicott. Yes the death of IBM has been brutal, but Endicott is not a town, but a village inside the town of Union. It is also one of the Triple Cities that make up the greater Binghamton area.

A town in New York you should visit is Owego, New York, which was voted (some how) Coolest Small Town In America, in 2009 by Budget Travel Magazine!! I live in Owego New York and frankly it is a sh*t hole, and that is STILL trying to be polite about the place!! About the only thing "good" about the town is we have two amazing pizza shops, which are Mario’s Pizza and Original Italian’s outside of there isn’t much else that is really here!! We have no Walmart, and if you want to do some shopping, you have to travel to Ithaca NY, which is nearly 28 miles away, Vestal NY which is almost 20 miles away, or Sayre PA which is almost 24 miles away!! And while Owego DOES have possibly the worst McDonald’s in the chain (that can never get your order correct), and we have a Wendy’s, Arby’s and there is KFC/ A&W combo store, there are NO Grub Hub, Door Dash or Uber Eats for people who live just seven miles outside of town!! Making the two pizza places that deliver to my house……and nobody else will!!

Other than Lockheed Martin who only seems to hire people with a college education, there are no other factories and we have a Hampton Inn but it is far too expensive for anybody locally to stay there! BUT likewise we have two major grocery stores, (Price Chopper and Grand Union) that seem to do OK, but they are also the only grocery stores within miles of these tiny town!! And the local business basically sell things that are "one off" though highly priced for Mom and Pop shops!! The only other businesses we have are a couple of bars, a couple small laundromats and both an Auto Zone and a NAPA Auto Parts!! And I should point out that once upon a time the factory Lockheed is in, used to be the manufacturing plant for IBM until they cut bait and ran away many years ago!! We do have three new car dealerships which sells new Ford, Chrysler/ Dodge, and GM cars and I really don’t know how these places stay in business, because the majority of people around here, can’t afford the cars these places sell!
And while talking about Owego, most of the town is a drug haven, and crime isn’t unheard of in the area either!! As many of the crimes are usually drug related!! The only other employer around here is Adam Weitsman’s Upstate Shredding, which buys and sells steel, and they were the largest privately held metal shredding operations on the East coast for a long time.

The only other thing Owego is known for is its Strawberry Festival!! which usually happens in early to mid June!! Prepare for bad weather though as every year I have ever been to it, it is rainy and cold as everybody and their brother comes to the town to pedal Strawberry related items!! But don’t look too closely at many of the run down building, most that are overly priced rental properties, and in many cases are loaded with bed bugs!!!! Though I do have to add here, the "Painted Ladies" (old houses) on Main Street are fairly impressive, any one of a number of side streets take you to run down houses occupied by mostly drug addicts and poverty!!! Though many of the homes in the surrounding area are very nice, but wildly expensive for an area that doesn’t even offer many jobs!!

Please note Briggs made mistake here… is it Morrisonville instead of Morrisville near Syracuse. You named the town incorrectly.

  13. Any B on January 3, 2023 at 1:44 am

    NYC is a dump

  14. B. White on January 3, 2023 at 1:47 am

Hey there! I am curious as to if you meant a different town instead of Morrisville? It certainly is a little town, located on Rt 20. But 32 miles east of Syracuse (in central NY)and is no where near the VT border.
I was interested to see what towns you chose because there are many small, poverty stricken towns across NYS, which I think many people don’t realize how big NY is.
I am a big fan of your videos and I hope you keep doibg them.
We are now in VT, do if you need and VT info feel free to say hello.

All one needs is demographic information of an area to find correlations which predict crime and unemployment rates with astonishing accuracy.

  20. Joyce N on January 3, 2023 at 1:50 am

Worst town is Pine Hill. Just two run down ancient hotels one restaurant and a post office. Totally rots

  21. Sondra W. on January 3, 2023 at 1:50 am

If u think these NY towns r too cold, don’t go to the Great White North…Canada,

  22. James Gardner on January 3, 2023 at 1:51 am

I believe Jeff Snider of Eurodollar University fame is from Mexico, NY.

Nassau does have a very good school system (it is part of the East Greenbush School District). There are large employers nearby including Amazon, Regeneron, and NYS. That might explain the higher home cost. Nassau lake was polluted by some farmer like 20 years ago so you can not fish there.

  23. dan page on January 3, 2023 at 1:51 am

I don’t believe that Lewiston NY has that bad of weather. In the summer it could linger in 90’s. Lewiston has Artpark theme park which has art shows and concerts in the park area. Top performers play here. They have a beautiful Main Street full of bars and artisan shops to visit. Lewiston also has speedboats that you can rent and ride along the Niagara River. It’s clean, hardly any crime and a reasonable rate of income to live there. Don’t judge unless you live there. It is so much fun there. Spend some time there.

    How about Mount Vernon???

  25. Cindy McKown on January 3, 2023 at 1:52 am

I know most of these towns (lived a few miles out from one for 10 years) – they really aren’t much different from a lot of upstate New York. Beautiful countryside, pretty (though often "has-been") towns, but not a lot of jobs, services, or infrastructure. Weather tends towards a lot of cloudy days, lots of cold/ice in winter (tons of snow if you are by the Great Lakes – lake effect is intense!)

  26. Sondra W. on January 3, 2023 at 1:53 am

60 yrs in upstate NY & There r many town worse then many of these. In Schoharie Cty& surrounding counties. I had a client I visited & they literally lived in a shack & used an Out House. Horrible winters. This was only 15 yrs ago.

    This video is bullshit

  28. john donohoe on January 3, 2023 at 1:57 am

I wonder what shit hole your from Briggs. NYS is not perfect but I call it home. I live in the Hudson Valley and I’m proud of it. Trouble with New York is the government that sends all money to the deadbeats in NYC. Instead of attracting businesses, they raise taxes, legalize drugs and gambling which feeds the corruption. I’m proud of what NY was and the potential it has.

My husband and I moved out of Scotia, N.Y. in 1989.
Were sick of rain /snow/ ice and a very tiny summer of about 65 days. Lots of ticks, mosquitos and bugs in those short summers !
we moved to Virginia, bought a small farm on 13 acres, never looked back……lol……
Only reason people remain up there is family ties, and they are home bound most of the time, shut in at 60 years old!!

  34. Connel Rounds on January 3, 2023 at 2:02 am

Spot on! I lived in Watertown, NY for three years, to include Fort Drum. I still have in-laws there.

As a person that has liven in Brownville for 13 years it is a place that you schould actually take into consideration of seeing because General Jacob Brown is what ours schools are named after, we have the Brown mansion that has a playground and a library, we have the great people ever, the best pizza you will ever have, and the best parades followed by a big celebration called GB days where we have carnival rides, games, crafts, amazing food, the high school bamd preforms, and ends it all with fireworks. So if you say Brownville is the worst town in New York state you are very wrong since you have never been here and experienced it all.

  39. Fred Clark on January 3, 2023 at 2:11 am

Cobleskill conservatives lost Factory, Hotel, Motel, physical fitness center, Bowling Alley, Roller Rink, AMJam, Mom &Pops , Teen Town and local morale. Added 4 pill mills, 4 auto parts stores, 2 stewarts, fast food and Walmart ….good right???
Violent crime/murder is up with 3k residents and State, local, college and sheriff all near . Delapitated house and sidewalks, fire dept runs it into the ground as it’s a police state. All nightlife gone.
