Are the ice packs on cat mate really effective?? Because I want to invest in it for wet food… But I want honest reviews for how fresh the food will be. Given, I work most weekdays and will be gone for 8-9 hours a day approximately so I’m only concerned about how the fresh the food will be for 9 hours or so…

Looking through these and seeing how much these items have jumped in price is insane 🙁

Thank you for the review though!!

  4. furiousstylz31 on January 5, 2023 at 1:34 am

Love the reviews – my question surrounds the "kibble". I’ve heard that some feeders may either malfunction, food get stuck, or dispense too much – based on the size of the dry cat food. How do I know if my dry cat food will work with the cat feeder?? I use Wilderness cat food.

Pet Safe feeder is $58 now in 2022. And it has a habit of rotating two or ever four slots instead of rotating just one. It’s very tricky to program.

I’ve had 3 of the surefeed chip feeders for about 4 years now. I love them. They’re not perfect, but better than anything else I’ve tried. Feeding wet food can be problematic if you don’t keep up with the cleaning. Cats push the wet food toward the back and it can get into nooks and crannies and ruin the motor. This happened to one of mine but it was covered by the awesome 3 year warranty.

Now, after the warranty is finished, I completely take the unit apart down to the inner workings to clean it.
Once the feeder is opened for a cat to eat from, another cat can come from the back and eat out of the bowl as well. You can purchase a plastic bubble piece to snap onto the back to eliminate that problem. So more costs. That being said, I’d definitely purchase these again.

Imo, the best possible feeder for someone to create is a microchip feeder that also has a built in timer so that it can be locked until you want your cat’s chip to open it. And also a completely sealed feeding area so that moisture and food can’t get into the inner parts of the feeder.
I also have the petsafe automatic feeder, but had it in storage for years since I had stopped feeding dry. I recently took it out and the motor is frozen. It won’t turn the gears.

Looked into the Wopet feeder and jumped on a huge prime day discount. I didn’t have many issues in the setup, the only issue I had was it not registering when I held the "set" button but after a second try it worked fine. The feeder would shoot kibble onto the floor to begin with but it hasn’t done that in a while, not sure what changed there but I’m happy regardless. Love the camera, the amount of funny angles I’ve captured of the cats sniffing the feeder has been worth it alone

I’ve had the pet safe eatwell for 7 yrs.. the reason i got it was because at times I would be away from the house for up to 6 days. It would allow me to feed Lelu regularly without being there. Lelu was new to me at about the same time.. she’s a respectable eater.. she doesn’t over eat at all. I’ve had no issues with this feeder, though I only use it for dry.. With wet food, it tends to go bad after a couple days (the stuff I give her anyways). She really only gets wet once or twice a week, the small can lasts 2 days and it’s meant for urinary tract infections, which she seems prone too. My only concern with the feeder is if the batteries die while i’m gone.. but now knowing her eating habits, it doesn’t really bother me much.
Great reviews by the way, thank you for your time!

  10. Noelle Davis on January 5, 2023 at 1:40 am

What prevents the wet food feeders from developing bacteria? I’ve understood that wet food should not stay at room temperature for more than a few hours as it will start to breed bacteria. The Cat Mate C500 has ice packs to keep the temperature up; but the Eatwell (Runner-up) does not.

I need the auto cat feeder for wet food because my cat needs daily medication which I can only hide in either soft cheese, or liquid treats. Probably in cream but I haven’t tried it yet. It’s once a day. I travel a lot so I need the cat to take it every 24h. My question: do you think it’s practical to dissolve crushed tablet in cheese then leave it for four days? Or will it become solid and unattractive to the cat anymore? Any real practical experience for a similar case would be appreciated plz.

  14. 790757 6743 on January 5, 2023 at 1:44 am

Annoying that there’s no cat feeder for wet food with some type of cooling system. Because let’s be real, icepacks aren’t going to do anything.

Please do not consider Wopet!!! We have had the feeder for a year, the app is terrible, often glitches. We don’t turn it on all the times, only when we are away, since our cats are on a wet food diet. But one time, when we were about to leave for a trip, the app continuously froze when we tried to log in. We tried multiple times, even restarting our wifi and reinstalling the app. Nothing worked! And we had no way to turn on the feeder manually to feed the cats while away! Customer support is a joke as well

Do you have any suggestions where the amount of grams are not so much different everytime? I tried the cat mate c3000 but the units are different weight everytime. I got a cat with diabetes so really have to watch her weight.

  26. AussieRagdoll on January 5, 2023 at 1:57 am

I recently got a kitten as a companion for my almost 7 yr old cat. Hamish (the older one) is a grazer, dry food only cat (he won’t eat wet foods), and of course Catriona (the kitten) is on kitten food and also raw food. So I initially bought one for Catriona. It didn’t take long for her to get the idea and eats comfortably from the Surefeed Microchip feeder. I ended up needing to buy a second feeder, for Hamish, because Catriona was stealing HIS food on top of eating her own! He has not been so quick on the uptake about how to get the device to open for him… but he’s getting there. Luckily, it is the law in Australia that all cats and dogs are microchipped (it’s been that way for at least 15 years or more) because both cats have removed their breakaway collars. I can’t find Catriona’s collar at all, and I’ve given up trying to get Hamish to keep his on after having to put it back 6 times… in a week.

What makes you interested in an automatic feeder for your cat? Do you want to control their portions while you’re away from home? Keep multiple cats’ food separate? Or are you looking for a feature-rich smart feeder that allows you to monitor your cat’s feedings while you’re at work? Let us know in the comments!

Main problem is how to feed more than one cat with one feeder, if they don’t want share food…

We have 2 of these feeders. The Petsafe spinning bowl and the Surefeed microchip feeder. One of our old cats was a MAJOR food thief and took advantage of the other cat’s grazing nature. We had to get the microchip bowls so our poor senior cat could get enough food. Before that, we were using the spinny feeders. After we got the microchip feeders, we only used the spinny bowls when we went out of town for a weekend, which wasn’t often.

Both of those cats have since passed and we got 2 new kittens. We just went ahead and acclimated the kittens to the microchip feeders since they were still in great shape and worked so well for the previous cats. I even ordered extra bowls in 2 different colors and we only use one color with one kitten and the other color with the other kitten so hopefully they can easily identify which bowl is theirs by color.

I am sooo glad I watched this. I have a young healthy female cat and an older extremely over weight male. Trying to limit the males food has been a nightmare because he just steals the girls food lol. The microchip feeder looks like a lifesaver!!!

Thank you very much for recommending the “PetSafe Healthy Pet Simply Feed Automatic Feeder”!

I found having an automatic feeder to be helpful in general. The first feeder that I had was the “Iseebiz Automatic Cat Feeder”. That worked pretty good for a decent amount of time, but it somehow became unplugged every so often and my cat (Bastu) would be able to sneak extra food out of the feeder (which always made me a bit nervous). After what I think was at least a year, the feeder stopped distributing food. I am not sure if there was problem with a gear, motor, etc.

The second feeder (or the first replacement feeder) was a “Ymiko Automatic Cat Feeder”. Within the first week, there were issues with food being provided at the scheduled times. I noticed this happened at least one more time within 2 weeks. My cat has a special prescription diet, and I think that food is larger than average cat food. So, I left it out in the mailroom for my apartment complex with a note to let me know if it causes problems for somebody else’s cat. Nobody has contacted me after that point, so I am assuming that it might be OK for somebody else. However, not being feed all of the scheduled meals is not acceptable, and this was not the feeder for me.

After watching this video, I purchased the PetSafe feeder (as the third feeder or second replacement feeder). I have been using this feeder for more than 1 month, and I have not noticed any problems. It is not as transparent as the Ymiko feeder, but it is more transparent than the Iseebiz feeder. The power adapter also has a different style plug, and I am not sure if that might contribute to the feeder not becoming unplugged (so far). Also, as an added benefit over both the Iseebiz and Ymiko feeders, I have not yet seen my cat “sneak” any extra food and I think the extra cover over the dispenser may make this harder for my cat.

So, again, thank you very much for the recommendation!

  36. Yvonne Lambach on January 5, 2023 at 2:11 am

thank you so much! this is very helpful 🙂

Can anyone tell me why there is still not a cool combination of a microchip function with multiple meal for wet food to keep food fresh, offer small portions, avoid gulping and prevent others from stealing? Who yould love one of these too?? 🙂

  37. Ríss Meesh on January 5, 2023 at 2:13 am

Hello! I have the c500 feeder for my cat, when you say it can keep the wet food fresh for 2 days in certain conditions, what are those conditions?

  38. Robin on January 5, 2023 at 2:13 am

    Thanks for your videos.
I have one of the SureFeed microchip feeders but cant recomend it if you have a realy hungry cat.
He draged the whole machene over the floor. Somedays I found it upp side down. When I glued it with doubblesided tape he bend the plastic up to open it.

  39. Michelle Congrove on January 5, 2023 at 2:17 am

I bought the first and the last feeder thanks to your reviews. Sadly the first one has quit working, but I am ordering a replacement because it functioned the best for us and our fat cat. The Surefeed works great for our thin grazer. It keeps his greedy alpha male brother out of his food. I also apperceive that I can give them both we and dry food during the day while I am gone to work.

  40. jo bond on January 5, 2023 at 2:19 am

I have the surefeeder Yes one of my cats can steal from the side and back but surefeed has a solution. You can buy a plastic cage that goes on the back of the feeder. No more stealing most effective I also put raw food in the surefeed which means cleaning every meal but it works

  41. EveaGornall on January 5, 2023 at 2:22 am

Okay cat-food-dispenser-inventors, listen up: we need something that does all of this — Wet or dry food dispensing with refrigeration built-in for the wet food (and none of this battery-only bs, I don’t just have a bajillion DD batteries laying around); Smart phone connectivity with camera; slow feed option for hungry hippos; two separate individually programmable bowls with chip or tag recognition; quiet mechanics and shallow bowls. Oh, and make everything dishwasher safe. Cool? Cool, thanks, see you on Shark Tank

Hello, thanks for your videos! they are very useful. I got in the end the Cat mate 500. I got it because I would like to use it when I am couple of days away over the weekend for example. Then, it would be 2 meals per day, but how do I do this? it doesn´t allow me to set times for two days, just withing the 24h. Please, some help 🙂

  44. Red Head Guy on January 5, 2023 at 2:27 am

Question, given that you posted this video about two years ago, are there any new models of auto feeders out that you would add to this list?

  45. Eclectic Guy on January 5, 2023 at 2:27 am

Bought the Arf. Great design. Great features. Unfortunately the plastic they used to create it is terrible. The little paddles that dispense the food began breaking off with the first 6 months. This if for tiny pellets of dry cat food so the weight should not have been a factor. Tried to get a replacement paddle wheel and found they were bragging about the "redesign" to make it stronger than before. So they knew it was an issue. Unfortunately, the replacement part was never in stock and no one ever responded to our various messages, emails, FB messages etc.
Decided – since I could not get the replacement part, to FIX the old part by building and attaching new little paddles to the paddle wheel. When i attempted to remove the food tray (something I’ve done a 100 times), the plastic tab shattered. First the left, then the right. Unreal. So now I’m on here looking for a replacement for the Arf.
Loved it while it worked. But at 6 months for $80, paid over 10 bucks a month for what we got out of it. Forget about warranties etc. No one will ever contact you.
Hoping one of these works for us.

Would like an automatic cat feeder that will despense freeze dried food. I’m going to freeze dry my own raw cat food into kibble-sized bits. That way my cat will continue to get high quality food while I’m away. Is there any reason that wouldn’t work with an automatic cat feeder?

Thanks, this is just the info I was looking for. The microchip feeder in particular.
