Found out my cat has renal disease. But she is addicted to kibble. I’ve been trying to transition her to canned food. Vet said to give her some prescription kibble but since I only have social security as income I would have to stop eating in order to afford to feed my cat. I keep hearing how kibble is bad for her but vet is saying go ahead & feed her the kibble. I’m considering changing vets but then I’d have to pay for the expensive tests all over again. I’m getting very disheartened by all of this.

Sorry to put this all here, but I guess I just needed to vent.

I feed my six cats only certifield organic food (mostly Newman’s Own brand). I don’t think that organic food is magic, but it is USA-made and meets strict processing standards. Foods with words like ‘natural’ ‘human grade’ etc, are meaningless …have no required standards. But if a food is certified ‘USDA organic’, it must, by law, meet specific quality standards. Foods certified by Oregon Tilth must meet even higher quality standards. Expensive….but worth it to me to avoid the heartbreak of a poisoned pet. The pet food industry doesn’t care how badly it hurts us owners when we lose a pet. It costs the companies nothing. If you sue a company for killing your fur baby, courts award merely the cost/monetary value of the animal, if anything. Profits are their only concern. It isn’t just the pet food from China. American pet food companies use the most disgusting things in pet food…animal digest…meat by-products…’meal’…stuff treated with chemicals to make it legal to feed to pets. Pet food manufacturers also do ‘splitting’ when listing ingredients to make the ingredients list look like it contains higher quality food than it really does. Pet food advertised as ‘contains no wheat/wheat grain’ generally contain potato or rice as their starchy filler. Unfortunately, many vet schools do not include much information about pet nutrition in their curriculum so even the best vets get their nutrition ‘education’ from pet food reps (check the required courses for vet programs at universities). A good source of information about the pet food industry is Martin’s book, "Food Pets Die For."

  7. UDLTUBE on December 2, 2019 at 6:48 am

My cats just ‘eat’ the juice…no matter which one …leaves them hungry and they end up eating kibble. I was hoping for some natural cat food choices.

  8. Connda Pierce on December 2, 2019 at 6:48 am

Add some water to the kibble. Then put a tablespoon of wet food on top. In 2019 it is found that chicken jerky for dogs a product of Canada but in small print made in China is killing dogs. Also sold in U.S.

Can I add a little bit of water in their food bowl when I serve them dry food? I’m thinking about feeding Orijen (not the grain-free version as I heard they do need some grains to digest or something). One of my cat is FAT! (22lbs) Currently on Prescription Diet Urinary.

  11. Nefertiti The Queen on December 2, 2019 at 6:51 am

It so true on dry food but when you have more than one cat it hard to make homemade food all the time and price is high I do make chicken and liver when I can on pay day; I also notice it unfair to make dry food so expensive and bag so small. Not fair if you have more than one cat. I feel like a lot of people are cat haters. It sad when you Love them so much but all others see is to make money off them and you. Great video

I got my cat when she was 4 months old. She just turned 1 year and I can barely get her to eat wet food. She would only eat kibble when I got her and as of the past couple months she will now eat the gravy in canned food but not the meat. Thankfully she drinks water like she will never see it again. She runs away if I show her any human food and will also not eat any cat treats. She also scratches the ground around any food she doesn’t like, which has got my other cat starting that behavior. Any recommendations? I would obviously like her to be healthy. Thank you.

My one year old cats got used to eat dry food most of the time, when I try to cook meat or chicken they don’t eat it , one of them doesn’t eat raw meat, lately one of them got sick with gingivitis! And I’m sure that the reason is the dry food, although I was advised that it’s the best food for cats. How can I convince them to eat cooked meat and chicken ! Can I feed them raw meat after freezing it for three days?

I give my kitty the Hill’s Science diet 1 – 6 year old. She is going to be 2 in February. I measure her feedings. She’s always had the same brand her whole life thus far. Her vet appointment went very well. The doctor said she’s healthy, weight is ideal, fur clean, vitals good, and she’s very Tall, good muscle. I’m happy. Her 2 year check up should be good too

Im feeding my cats cooked plain rice with steamed fish and i add a lil warm water to keep it moist. And i give them a lil dry food twice. And they drink lots of water. I had a urine problem with one cat only. I’ve noticed that he doesn’t drink water like the rest of the cats. That’s why he had to go under a surgery to remove the crystals yet the vet gave me this dry food called fit 32 from royal canin. I don’t know if its a good diet or nah. But im adding warm water and a lil steamed fish for him.

  22. Oops My fault on December 2, 2019 at 7:01 am

I grew up in a household where the majority of the animal food is dry kibble, and only one animal isn’t overweight (we have four). I didn’t realize this until last year when my friends pointed it out. Although I’m not really in charge of anything over my parents, I do have a responsibility to make sure my animals are healthy, today I’m putting all the cats on a healthier lifestyle. Thank you so much for your videos

  23. Lainey Wright on December 2, 2019 at 7:02 am

I’ve had cats all my life and little over 50 years ago the ve told me to give him a quality dry food and no wet because the wet would cause his teeth to rot. I stuck to the plan and never gave it a second thought until recently as I noticed vets saying cats need the wet because of the water content. I have two cats, one will eat wet and one will not. The cat that will not eat wet seems to have problems. I hope I can figure this out before she develops major issues.

  29. Ellie Marie on December 2, 2019 at 7:12 am

"making sure that your cat is eating it" I put it there and they’ll get hungry eventually. I know that cats are not well equipped for starvation (but most cats feel that themselves and don’t starve for long if they are healthy)
One day of not eating won’t harm them more than a life of me catering to their sugar and grain cravings.

  30. Shimmer Rays on December 2, 2019 at 7:15 am

I do wet and dry. I heard dry was good for pets because it stimulates their teeth and gums. < Is that incorrect?

  31. A B Bikes Cars N’ Guitars on December 2, 2019 at 7:15 am

I mix dry food with canned food most of the time. But my cat had recently started throwing up more often than I thought was normal, and I was feeding him friskies at the time, I switched him ‘fancy feast’ and I usually switch between chicken/salmon, mostly shredded but sometimes patè. That was maybe two weeks ago, but unfortunately for the past couple days, my cat has had terrible diarrhea. It’s concerning to me and the local vet hasn’t been much help with this kindve stuff in the past. Do you think the diarrhea is being caused from switching foods? And is it a bad idea to switch between foods (and brands), or should I continue giving him a variety of meats? And lastly, do you have a recommended canned food?

  32. tamindus on December 2, 2019 at 7:16 am

When my cat eats wet cat food she gets red bumps on her skin. I tried various cat foods and the effect is the same. She has no problem with dry cat food btw.

There is a new vet at my regular vet, we have several vets…… he said I should not feed dry food to my cats. Lol, I was shocked. I always was told , by the other vet, working there also, that wet food is bad for their teeth.Could you suggest what to do in order to feed 2 cats?? How much to I feed my adult cats wet food?? I know it will say in the back of the can. Hard to say which cat will eat what and how much. They don’t eat in one setting. Any recommendation?? Thanks so much.

  46. Jennifer Rice on December 2, 2019 at 7:35 am

You missed the whole point which is taurine. Cooked chicken has no taurine. This is the worst video I’ve ever seen you do. People learned virtually nothing other than how to irritate a cat. Please do better. Please have a point. People will that cooked chicken is good enough; it is not. Without taurine your cat will die. Next time tell them that! !!
