I feel like I most need a therapy dog to help with my anxiety and depression, but having a companion who helps me to deal with my Psychosis would nice too if I lose touch with reality and don’t know what’s real. At least my dog would.

Could you train your dog to be an ESA? I can’t afford another dog (I’m 13) and my dog is not bad behaved. I have severe social anxiety and depression. I’m willing to put in lots of time for training. I completely understand if you think I shouldn’t. I also don’t know how to approach this conversation with my parents.

There should be a law about the amount of psychologist, therapist, psychiatrist treatment required before you can have your personal animal become an emotional support animal. Therapy dogs and psychiatric support dogs have tests and training, where as the emotional support dog just has to have a doctor’s or therapist’s note. It should required that you actually receive treatment by this professional first

Ok im so happy someone finally said it! This is so true and a bunch of people do it anyway and then when a real service dog goes in the same place they come across problems I know that bc I’m a service dog handler and this has happened to me a lot more then it should

I have actually used your app for training my SDiT for commands I couldn’t figure out. I don’t have money to pay a trainer or pay for the pro on your app. So I just used the commands I needed help with while not paying for the advanced. She has learned a lot. I’m still working on her heel but every thing else is down pretty solid. I finally passed on her stay in a down. Working on sit and stand stay and working on leave it and focus. She’s pretty great in these but their not solid as a rock. She’s training for psychiatric and medical alert. My next prospect i want a larger dog as she’s a toy. I have a few disabilities that I need mobility and guide for. Mobility due to dizzy spells and guide for disassociation and forward moment after a dizzy spell.

I have a question, can I get a service dog for my ADHD and anxiety? Or is that just considered an emotional support animal?

  19. t b on May 12, 2022 at 11:56 pm

There’s no difference you emotionally weak humans.

Something that annoys me even though it happened YEARS AGO, I was in a co op thing, and there was a girl in a wheelchair, and had a service dog, we where in the same classes 🙂 but something that always annoyed me was when kids would be petting her dog as she repetitively asked them to stop!! I was SOOO YOUNG but I was so annoyed at those people petting her dog!!

I don’t have a service dog/Therapy dog or Emotional support dog but I’m thinking I need an emotional support dog, I have really bad anxiety but I don’t really get anxiety attacks (at least I don’t think their anxiety attacks) things that won’t bother people like walking in a crowed or being next to people it gives me anxiety just thinking about it, I generally like being alone and I don’t even know why my heart just beats really fast when I’m next to someone, but I do go to school and I’m fine but if there’s a teacher in the hallway ahead of me or god forbid right next to me my little heart can’t take it and If I’m in Walmart and someone starts talking to me my heart just beats fast and the first thing I want to do is get away from people

  25. Jasmine Chen on May 13, 2022 at 12:03 am

wait, if an ESA is medically prescribed, doesn’t that mean they’re also medical equipment?

  27. Peace Dreams on May 13, 2022 at 12:04 am

    I have some questions.
What happens with agoraphobia? Could that be considered a disability if you get panic attacks just by leaving your house?

  32. Danielle Palao on May 13, 2022 at 12:10 am

Zak, I notice how dogs who are just regular pets can peovide comfort when one needs it. Even someone with Aspergers, Autism, or any other disorder that can cause anxiety can benefit from animals.

  33. Erika on May 13, 2022 at 12:11 am

too many ads. A service dog can make your life easier. So can shipping your dog food from this company blah blah blah. Lol really?

Can we just take a minute to appreciate and feel out that he is actually spreading CORRECT info about service animals I’m so excited by this a lot of dog trainers I hear about don’t actually know anything about the right laws regarding this topic and it can be pretty upsetting good job!!!!!

  38. kasey vaughn on May 13, 2022 at 12:30 am

I have a huge question. I my self am a massage therapist( kinda a mute point but relevant) and I’m wondering if there are laws that prevent having a therapy dog / dog in general in a massage place like elements massage or in a spa that does facials? I’ve heard that there are for spas but not for massages places . Didn’t tell me why so I don’t understand if there just saying so or what.

  39. Elizabeth Khouri on May 13, 2022 at 12:31 am

I don’t understand why they don’t just make a state ID for these dogs that the owner is responsible for

Where I live in the contract it says I can not own a dog over 14 inches tall. Can I have a service dog for my diabetes and epilepsy of any size according to the law?
